I know I'm off for a holiday when...

I start singing "I'm leaving on a jet plane..."
This song would automatically play in my head a few days before the trip. After that first line though, the lyrics start to fizzle out because it wouldn't make much sense anymore. I KNOW when I'll be back, and babe, I DON'T hate to go.

I take out my spare wallet and padlock for the luggage.
Although it's more practical to use my existing wallet, I just don't like the idea of mixing my SGDs with foreign currencies, so I always bring a spare wallet and transfer some of my cards over. And isn't it amazing how we never forget the combination of the padlock even though we barely use it? Hmmm.

I transform into my uptight self.
Ok self-admittedly, I'm an uptight person by nature. But when it comes to taking a holiday, being uptight certainly has its advantages. This time round, my uptightness has upped one level: I created (and printed) a to-bring list for Hil and I, noted the embassy contact details in Europe, took a flu jab, and made photocopies of my passport and IC.

I make an effort to eat and sleep well.
Knowing how easily I can fall ill, I have been trying to eat and drink healthily (think sushi for lunch and gallons of liang teh). I must sound quite auntie here, but seriously, if you're paying so much for a holiday, why jeopardise it by being anything less than 100%? Like my mummy would say, if you want to sleep, might as well stay at home.

I set my out-of-office auto-responder.
This is definitely one of my favourites on the to-do list. If I were brave enough, I'd say something like "Joann is out of the office from 11-25 May. DO NOT contact me, even if it's urgent. DO NOT email me anymore, even after the 25th. And DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT tell my boss I said this." Then I realised that my boss would be receiving this too...Dang.
