Being Easter Catholics

The world is a depressing place to live in, there's no doubt about that. From natural calamities to political unrest to global warming to secularism. Is the world a worst place than ever before? I often questioned God. And on the occasions where I allow my mind to wander further, I shudder at the thought of what other adversities tomorrow could possibly bring...

Then in the darkness, a light shone and every pair of eyes fixated on its glowing beam. It was so calming, so alluring, so gentle. And though the flame was small, the intense darkness could do nothing except to recede quietly into the background.

Jesus may have been condemned to death, crucified for speaking the truth and standing up for righteousness; he may have appeared like a helpless criminal, the loud-mouthed blasphemer, but ultimately, He had overcome every evil, fear and temptation that was put in front of Him.

And what does that mean for you and me? It means that God is beyond all the pain, suffering and dejection we may experience. He is above the fighting, the godlessness, and the power struggles. He is bigger than our sins, our unworthiness, and even death itself.

And it means that one day, even if I have to be ostracised, oppressed, tortured, or put to death, Jesus - who died on the cross for doing nothing wrong - has shown me that it can be done, that the darkness can be overcome. What I have to look forward to then, is eternity with Him. I can look forward to the light which destroys even the darkest of nights.

Out of darkness the light of Christ will shine,
As the dawn of day breaks through the night.
Then the poor and oppressed will cry out and be heard,
By the light that rises from the night.

Happy Easter everyone. I pray that the Lord's resurrection has filled you with new hope and immense joy which the world will never be able to give.
